Dhaka : The design of the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is over and a final decision is being awaited in this regard.
Fourteen more boarding bridges will be added. The car parking space will be increased by 1500.
Air Vice Marshal M Naim Hassan, BBP, OSP, afwc, psc, Chairman, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), said this while talking to The Bangladesh Monitor at his office in the city recently.
Naim Hassan said, the problems we have been facing with the existing two terminals will not be there. We'll ensure that incoming and outgoing passengers do not mix. The spaces for offices and stalls will be allotted in a planned manner, not like on ad-hoc basis as it happened in Terminal One and Terminal Two.
There will be specific places for different outlets, whether they are for banks, eateries, hotels or meet and greet offices.
He said, some existing structures, like small hangars and offices, will have to be removed to contruct the Third Terminal - there's a lot of jobs to be done in this regard.
VVIP facilities may be moved to the Third Terminal, he said.
It's a colossal task. Hopefully the ground breaking for the Third Terminal will take place this year. The estimated time for construction to be completed is four years, but we'll try to soft open the terminal before that.
He said different steps have been taken to improve facilities at the Cargo Village. "Saudia, Etihad people were here. They were satisfied," Naim Hassan said and hoped the ban on cargo airlift from Bangladesh would go soon.
Training, specially of inspectors, is continuing. The organogram of CAAB was at the last phase and when implemented, it will lead to a quantum jump, in all apects.
Speaking of Redline, Naim Hassan said they have trained some 1600 people. They had given us a number of suggestions. Otherwise how, could we have known the latest practices, how could we have improved, he posed the question.
Gates of the exiting terminals will be further increased for quicker entry of passengers into the terminals, he said, adding VVIP approach road has been opened to ease movement of traffic.
He said, he was considering adding another floor to the existing domestic terminal, considering the increase in the number of passengers using them.
Naim Hassan said, another building will be added to the existing terminal at Jessore airport while night landing and takeoff facilities will be installed at Syedpur, Rajshahi and Barisal airports.
