A new dimension in tax education

Master of Tax Management launched at DU

DHAKA : Department of Banking and Insurance, University of Dhaka, the pioneer in Banking and Insurance education in Bangladesh, has set another remarkable milestone in the education of tax management in collaboration with the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

To add to the recent pace in economic growth of Bangladesh, to achieve the goal of revenue collection of the budget and specially, to educate the individuals and professionals in the area of taxation and its management, Department of Banking and Insurance has just launched the Master of Tax Management programme.

Earlier, it started as the Diploma in Tax Management. Seeing its demand and at the request by NBR, the department has decided to redesign the programme and convert it into a Masters programme authorised by the academic council of the university.

Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, Vice-Chancellor, University of Dhaka, Professor and Dean of the faculty of Business Studies, Professor Shibli Rubayat -Ul-Islam along with Senior Secretary and Chairman of NBR was present at the inaugural function. The President of Bangladesh Tax Lawyers' Association and Dhaka Taxes Bar Association and Secretary General of Bangladesh Tax Lawyers' Association (BTLA) were also present at the programme.

The Vice-Chancellor praised this effort of the department and stated that the programme is designed according to the needs of NBR. He emphasised that this programme will educate people and the professionals to develop a scientific and easy tax management system in Bangladesh.

The Senior Secretary and Chairman of NBR said that this programme would add value in developing a tax friendly culture and skilled human resources in Bangladesh. He thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Dean and the University at large to come forward to fulfill the need of the country in this regard.

The dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, emphasised on the importance of the education of Tax Management for being self-dependent nation as this education will help us effectively manage our tax revenue.

The Chairman of the Department of Banking and Insurance, Professor Md. Abu Taleb expressed his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor to help department in introducing the programme. He also added that the education will help in creating a tax friendly culture in Bangladesh and will play an important role in taking our country to the middle-income group in near future. He concluded the programme saying that, his department will always remain vigilant in developing this kind of programme in future.
