The country's first-ever automated restaurant is in operation with the food being served to customers by robots. In the first world, some restaurants there are operated by robots in a bid to save on employee wages. But, the concept is new in Bangladesh.
The robot operated restaurant was launched in Asad Gate area in Dhaka on November 18. Named "Robot Restaurant", it is located at Family World Convention Centre on Mirpur Road. And it had already enthralled the people, specially the children.
"This year when I visited China with my father and my elder brother, we brought this robot from China-based robot-making organisation HZX Electro-nic Technology Company," Rahin Raiyan, Director of the restaurant said.
"Robot Restaurant invites people to come to the eatery and experience robotic service," he added.
Waiters get tired after working for a few hours, according to Rahin, but when robots are serving the guests, it will ensure better service and also will be a huge entertainment for the guests.
"Also such an environment will be a source of amusement for people of all ages, especially children," he said.
People from all sections of society can visit the restaurant and have a rare experience. The food items are reasonably priced, he added. To make the children's time memorable here, they have some "special plans" which will be executed gradually.
"Kids' menu will be the unique attraction for our restaurant," Rahin said.
It is, however, not entirely robot-operated restaurant yet. Primarily, the restaurant has installed two humanoid robots to serve food to customers.
"Initially, robots are not taking orders. They are just delivering orders to the customers. We will gradually open the options of ordering food through robots," he added.
This is another step to make the country digitalised in all sectors.
Each robot for this restaurant costs between US$8,000 and US$10,000.
