PATA BD Chapter plays proactive role to promote tourism

: The Bangladesh Chapter of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA} has taken some pro-industry steps over the last three years after a new committee led by Shahid Hamid FIH assumed its helm, as well as electing the first-ever two board of directors and three industry council members.
PATA Bangladesh Chapter arranged paid internship at PATA HQ in Bangkok of three members PATA Bangladesh University Student Chapter. One internship has already been completed.
The chapter helped Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, University of to open the "PATA Bangladesh University Student Chapter". The Chapter is helping set up an e-Library to facilitate tourism studies and research with the help of other PATA members at University of Dhaka. It is yet to be completed.
Six persons recommended by the chapter attended Human Capital Development (HCD) programme in Bangkok and Hong Kong Polytechnic Institute, organised by PATA while another industry professional received scholarship for two-week course in Tourism and Hospitality Management at Hawaii, US
To preserve traditional art forms, the chapter arranged US$10000 donation from PATA Foundation to Palli Baul Sangstha for preservation of Baul Culture.
The Bangladesh Chapter participated in PATA CEO Challenge competition focusing Sylhet as a new tourism destination. All though it didn't qualify but TripAdvisor will promote Sylhet globally.
It jointly organised daylong programme with Regency Hotel and Resort a programme on "Basic health hygiene, grooming and customer relations" for 25 employees of small size hotels and restaurants of Nikunja area followed by certification handover attended by restaurant owners.
But the crowning achievement was the holding of the first-ever PATA New Tourism Forum-2016 in Cox's Bazar on 23-25, November 2016 jointly organised by BTB and PATA HQ.
During this period, Dr Mario Hardy, CEO, PATA to Bangladesh visited Bangladesh twice.
Members of the Chapter attended Sichuan International Tourism Expo two times. Each time five chapter members attended, all at the expenses of PATA China Chapter.
For its activities, PATA Bangladesh Chapter received first-ever award on PATA NextGen Engagement.
