Dhaka: The premier travel trade fortnightly The Bangladesh Monitor has called off its print version effective April 1 until further notice due to the novel coronavirus pandemic which has already caused the global travel trade industry come to a standstill.
Meanwhile, the journal requests all to keep an eye on its online news portal - https://www. bangladeshmonitor.com and facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/bangladeshmonitor/ as it will be active 24/7 online to provide the readers with necessary news and updates of the industry.
To contain the spread of COVID-19, Bangladesh has banned travel to and from most of the countries across the globe and imposed a countrywide lockdown till April 4. The same scenario is being witnessed all across the globe as the world tries to tackle the unfortunate circumstances.
Hence, the global travel trade industry has been hit the hardest by the outbreak. And Bangladesh is no exception as it records to have the highest amount of employment in the tourism sector than any other country in the world.
Therefore, publication of the upcoming issues of the travel fortnightly The Bangladesh Monitor depends on further improvement of the current scenario.
This is the first time such an uncalled-for decision has been made in the history of the journal after 29 years of uninterrupted service.
In this regard, the premier publication conveys its sincere apologies to its valued readers and wishes for their well-being amid this difficult time.
