US seizes over 300 drones near FIFA World Cup venues

Dhaka: US
authorities have seized over 300 drones that were flown illegally near FIFA
World Cup stadiums and fan zones since the tournament began, according to the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The enforcement effort
involved the TSA, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI), Department of Homeland Security, and local law enforcement
agencies.
Federal officials have
imposed temporary flight restrictions around World Cup venues, banning
unauthorized drone operations near stadiums and other event locations.
Authorities warned that violations could result in hefty fines, criminal
penalties, and the confiscation of equipment.
Officials said,
unauthorized drones pose potential risks to spectators, aircraft, and security
operations, prompting a zero-tolerance approach during the tournament.
The large number of
seizures underscores the growing challenge that consumer drones present to
security planners at major international events, despite repeated warnings
issued to operators ahead of the competition.
